Console tables are so diverse and available in such a wide selection of designs sizes colors and shapes that it can sometimes be difficult to define the difference between a console table and a sofa table. For those of you who are unsure exactly what they are the definition is really rather vague they are defined as small tables often narrow in shape supported by either two or four legs leaving the decision of whether the table you are looking at is a sofa table or a console table.
When you are creating a country theme to your home you will want to remove as many of the modern day items in the home as you can. How believable is an old country living room that has remote controls sitting all over the place? This does not mean you are not going to use any of these items; you just want a way to keep them out of the way and from ruining the feel of the space.

Many examples of the period were carved and were in fact some of the finest pieces of sculpture as much as furniture. An opulent group of consoles was made in 1675-78 for the Palazzo Colonna in Rome; where the supports for the tops were commonly carved as human figures eagles tumbling putti (cupids) luxuriant foliage and dolphins and they often were gilded.
